100 or 150 years ago, these were Irish, Italian, and Jewish immigrants. They live in slums where they can live with their countrymen, immigrants themselves speak little English, poverty, and high crime. Their children raised in two worlds, speaking both the old and the new languages, often help their parents communicate and move on to better jobs knowing the language helps. The next generation is fully Americanized, still has some ties to the old country and culture but has no real linguistic ability, and only interacts with immigrants like nephews.

Today, the majority of immigrants come from Latin America, and they often come here with secondary education. Again, there is brutality, crime, residency as they slowly integrate into the residential community – and again, there is the outrage from those who are down-paid and have to deal with crime, and the costs of education and social subsidies are high. Native Americans and blacks are special cases. Many but more than all Indians have been classified as poor, long after they should have joined the general population. Black Americans suffered the most, first being enslaved and then discriminated against. The downside is that they look different and face racism, meaning they have a hard time getting into the general population, even though that has gradually changed over the past 50 years.
